TeleYemen has been the exclusive provider of international telecommunications services since 1971, (the only international gateway to Yemen). It was established as a subsidiary of the British Telegraph and Wireless Company until 1989. Then the General Corporation for Telecommunications became a major partner with 49% of the company’s total shares, and accordingly the company’s name was changed to TeleYemen Company. In 2004, TeleYemen became a 100% state-owned enterprise. Of which, 75% is for the General Corporation for Telecommunications and 25% for the General Authority for Posts and Postal Savings
2006
Falcon to install two ground stations
TeleYemen signed an agreement with Falcon to install two ground stations for the undersea fiber optic cable in both Hodeidah and Al Ghaydah, in addition to providing TeleYemen with space with a capacity of up to 10 gigabytes per second on the same cable on the basis of absolute rights of use (IRU).
2008
France Telecom
The General Telecommunications Corporation renewed the agreement with France Telecom to continue managing TeleYemen’s business for another two years.
2010
TeleYemen launched
TeleYemen launched a service feature by reducing the tariff for international calls, as the price of international calls to any country in the world, at any time, and from any phone, became cheaper.
2013
TeleYemen launched YahClick service
TeleYemen launched the (YahClick) service, which is a service system that relies on broadband and satellite internet to cover urban and rural areas, with speeds of up to 15 megabytes per second.
2020
TeleYemen launched (Universal Satnet)
TeleYemen expanded and launched (Universal Satnet), an Internet connection service characterized by its broad range and high performance via satellite that can benefit individuals, companies, and institutions in Yemen.
